Hi everyone! I'm from UC Davis and I'm in a co-ed community service fraternity called Alpha Phi Omega. We're trying to open up a chapter of our frat at UC Merced and so I'd like to share some info about us to see if any of you might be interested.|
Alpha Phi Omega is an organization dedicated to Leadership, Friendship, and Service. We are at the national level and there are chapters all over the country and even in the Philippines. We have open membership (meaning anyone can join and we don't do bids). Members are expected to participate in community service events, like sorting food or clothing at the local food bank, or tutoring or playing with kids at a local shelter. We also have many social events, the big brother / little brother system, exchanges with other chapters (APhiO at other colleges), and our own rituals :). We do not haze and we are a dry fraternity, which means we cannot drink alcohol at any official event.
Of course, if you start a chapter, it's your fraternity! It's a great opportunity to start, shape, and develop your own organization. You get what you put into it. :) And it's incredibly fun!
We need 15 people in order to start a chapter. We'll be tabling at UCMerced at the Student Organization Faire coming up:
Student Organization Faire
Tuesday, September 6th
Kolligian Library Arcade
So feel free to drop by and meet us. We also encourage everyone to come to our social that same night:
Me-n-Ed's Pizza Parlor
3524 G Street (Cross St. Yosemite Drive)
Talk to members, learn what it means to be involved in Alpha Phi Omega, and what it involves to found a chapter at UC Merced!
If you have any questions, just ask me!! :) You can also ask our president, Alice- APHIOUCM@GMAIL.COM
Thanks everyone. :)
